Cricket's Three Formats and Bangladeshis' Favourite Tournaments

tkgm T20 match betting format

Understanding the format is where cricket betting begins. T20 is the fastest version — just twenty overs, and every ball counts. Odds shift quickly in this format, so in-play betting stays very active. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are the two most popular tournaments among Bangladeshi fans, and tkgm keeps betting markets open for every match in both leagues.

ODI (One Day International) is a 50-over match. Mid-match strategy plays a big role here — the run rate after the powerplay is reflected in the odds. T20 World Cup and ICC tournaments in this format generate significant betting activity.

Test cricket is a five-day contest. The result takes much longer to determine, so betting markets stay active for an extended period and odds are recalculated after each session.

Betting activity at tkgm picks up notably during Bangladesh Tigers international series — home or away, each series has its own dedicated markets.

How betting on football and other sports differs

Alongside cricket, tkgm also offers football betting. Football typically has three possible outcomes — home win, away win, or draw. T20 and ODI cricket have no draw option (a tie or Super Over is a separate matter), so cricket market structures are somewhat simpler than football.

Just as goal over/under markets are popular in football, total runs over/under takes that role in cricket. In-play betting in cricket moves faster — a single wicket can shift odds in an instant, which does not happen quite as quickly in football.

Betting markets are also available for kabaddi, hockey and other sports, though these have fewer markets than cricket or football.

Popular Cricket Betting Markets — how each one works

Most popular

Match Winner

Pick which of the two teams will win. If you choose Team A between Team A and Team B, your bet wins if Team A wins and loses if they do not. This is the most straightforward market in T20 and ODI.

T20 favourite

Toss Winner

Which team wins the toss — this market has no connection to the match result. The toss is a completely even-chance event, so it is simple but odds are usually close.

Batting market

Top Batsman

Pick which batter will score the most runs within a given team. Many bettors consider the form of the team's key batters and pitch conditions when placing bets in this market.

Runs market

Total Runs Over / Under

The bet is whether the combined total runs by both teams in the allotted overs will be above or below a set number. For example, you can bet on total runs being over or under 320.

Bowling market

Top Wicket Taker

Betting on which bowler will take the most wickets requires a good understanding of the team's bowling lineup and the opposition's batting order.

Multi bet

Multi Bet (multiple selections)

Multiple matches or markets are combined into one bet. All selections must be correct to win the full bet — if even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost. Because odds are multiplied together, the potential return is higher.

How to read odds — three formats explained

Odds at tkgm are shown in three formats — Decimal, Fractional and American. Bangladeshi bettors are most familiar with the Decimal format.

Format Price for Team A to win Result (bet ৳200)
Decimal 2.50 Total return if win: ৳500 (profit ৳300 + original stake ৳200); if lost, ৳200 is gone
Fractional 3/2 Same result — ৳300 profit on a ৳200 bet
American +150 A plus sign means ৳150 profit on a ৳100 bet; on ৳200 that is ৳300 profit

Now let's look at an example of a favourite. Team B's price is 1.25 in Decimal, 1/4 in Fractional, and -400 in American. A minus sign in American format means you need to stake ৳400 to win ৳100 profit. On a ৳200 bet, the total return would be ৳250 (profit of just ৳50). Favourites have lower odds because the market considers them more likely to win.

Multi bet example: If three separate selections have odds of 1.40, 1.60 and 1.80 respectively, the combined odds are 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.80 = 4.03 (approximately). So on a ৳100 bet, if all three selections are correct, the return is ৳403. But if even one selection is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost.

Understanding odds makes decisions easier

Whichever of the three formats you view odds in, you can see the potential return straight away. Because tkgm offers the option to switch formats, you can always view odds in the one you prefer.

Live In-Play Betting — placing bets while the match is on

The most dynamic aspect of cricket is in-play betting. Even after a match has started, odds keep changing with every wicket, every over and every boundary. When a team is 80 for 5, the opposition's odds to win drop considerably.

tkgm's live betting interface shows the scoreboard, over counter and current odds all in one place. The main draw of in-play betting is trying to anticipate how odds will move when a wicket suddenly falls in the final powerplay over or the death overs, then placing your bet accordingly.

Keep in mind — in-play betting requires quick decisions. Odds do not stay still, so a slight delay may mean missing the price you wanted. Many people prefer playing on mobile via the tkgm app to get more out of this type of betting.

Practical tips for cricket betting

  • Prepare according to the format
The same approach does not work for T20, ODI and Test. In T20, powerplay and death-over performance matters most; in Test, pitch conditions and weather are more relevant.
  • Set a budget
Decide in advance how much you are willing to spend on a match or tournament. If a bet loses, it is better not to immediately place a larger bet trying to recover.
  • Read the markets carefully
Starting with match winner and total runs over/under will make betting feel straightforward. Handicap and specialist markets become easier to understand with experience.
  • Avoid rushing in live betting
Odds in in-play markets change fast. After a single ball or wicket, take the overall situation into account rather than making a decision on impulse.
  • Treat betting as entertainment
Enjoy betting as one way to add to the experience of watching cricket. Wins and losses are both normal — no method can guarantee a profit. Read the Responsible Gaming page for guidance on responsible behaviour.
Cricket betting and all other betting and casino activities are for people aged 21+ only. Betting is entertainment — not a financial solution.

Handicap and Over/Under Markets in detail

tkgm handicap and runs over under market

Run line handicap: one team is given an artificial head start or deficit in runs. Say Team A is given a −20 run handicap — that means Team A must win by more than 20 runs for the handicap bet to win. This is used most often when two teams are closely matched.

Over/Under: the bet is whether total runs will exceed a set number. For example, if the over/under line in a T20 match is set at 320 — if both teams combine for more than 320 runs, 'over' wins; if fewer, 'under' wins. This market is independent of the match result, which is why many find it convenient to analyse.

Unlike casino-style games such as card games and roulette in the live casino, the difference with cricket betting is that analysing the sport is genuinely useful in sports betting — it is not in casino games.

T20 generally has the most markets — matches finish quickly and live betting stays very active. ODI also offers good market coverage. Test matches have markets too, but odds shift slowly over five days.

During BPL and IPL, tkgm opens betting markets for every match — from match winner through to live in-play markets. Full market details are available in the sports section at tkgm.

If a selection is cancelled due to rain, an abandoned match, or any other reason, it is removed from the multi bet and the remaining selections continue. The applicable rules follow tkgm's terms and conditions.

In-play bet results update as soon as the relevant market is settled. For example, 'which over does the next wicket fall' — the result comes in the moment that wicket falls. Markets based on the overall match result are settled after the match ends.

No, odds change constantly. From before the match starts through in-play, odds shift with every ball, wicket and run. They are set based on the volume of bets placed and market analysis.
